Check with your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider
To employ an apprentice or trainee in NSW, you need an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider.
They’ll help you understand and keep track of incentives and programs.
Following are some programs to help support apprenticeships and traineeships. But always ask your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider about the best and latest opportunities.

Payroll tax rebate scheme
You may be able to claim a payroll tax rebate on wages paid to approved apprentices and new entrant trainees.
The rebate is not available on wages paid to existing worker trainees.
This is available for employers and group training organisations (GTOs).

Workers' Compensation Insurance - Apprenticeship Incentive Scheme
If you employ an apprentice in NSW, you are entitled to:
a premium reduction based on wages paid to your apprentice.

Commonwealth Government Incentives
There are national programs providing incentives and support to employers of apprentices and trainees.

Continuing Apprentices Placement Service (CAPS)
CAPS is a free service where employers can find and recruit apprentices and trainees that are not currently employed.
How to use CAPS
- Employers register with CAPS.
- Review details of unemployed apprentices and trainees on the Continuing Apprentice Register.
- Select candidates and arrange interviews.
A CAPS officer can help you contact an Australian Apprenticeship Network Provider to advise you on:
- eligibility for incentives and
- assist in completing and lodging a Training Contract.
- Commonwealth Government Incentives.
- Apprentices and trainees register with CAPS.
